Acupressure

Origins

The origins of acupressure are as ancient as the instinctive impulse to hold your forehead or temples when you have a headache. Everyone at one time or another has used his or her hands to spontaneously hold tense or painful places on the body.

More than 5000 years ago the Chinese discovered pressing certain points on the body relieved pain where it occurred but also benefited other parts of the body more remote from the pain and the pressure point. This ‘finding’ was described in detail in The Yellow Emperors Classic of Internal Medicine, an ancient Chinese medical text. They also found other locations that not only alleviated pain but also influenced the function of certain internal organs. Using this knowledge and mapping out these pressure points they developed a ‘meridian chart’ of 361 acupuncture points which is still used today. The Chinese have practised self acupressure for over 5000 years as a way of keeping themselves well and happy in conjunction with or instead of true acupuncture ie needling of these same points.

My Approach

I have found acupressure to be a very valuable method to support or as an alternate to using true acupuncture. I can show you how to apply acupressure techniques which can help with a multitude of medical problems including pain, nausea, insomnia, breathlessness, anxiety, cramp and stress. It can be used to relieve and prevent sports injuries, and to relax tight muscles. It can relieve headaches, tooth pain, chronic fatigue. Furthermore it can be used for emotional re-balancing, depression and worry.

There are several techniques which I can show you and once learned they can be used anytime anywhere… true self management….

I intend to furnish this website with demonstrations of useful techniques which you can use yourself in the near future, but meanwhile please do not hesitate to contact me for a consultation, acupressure is non invasive, comfortable and effective…you just need to apply it properly to the most advantageous pressure points for the problem you are trying to address.

In addition to body acupressure points I can show you points on the ear which work in a reflex manner to address problems within the body. I may also apply acupressure plasters to support the treatment, which again is non invasive and comfortable.

The application of positive, therapeutic and compassionate pressure to appropriate points can release blockages, tension and accumulated stagnation in the meridian channels thereby correcting the functioning of organs and promoting improved health and wellbeing ….. try it and see ….
